Hello,
first of all, forgive me my school english, but I hope you will know what I mean ;)
In february I spent a few days in Inverness. Does anybody can tell me what is important to see in Inverness? Something special? I would be happy about some tips.
Wish you all a beautiful sunday.
Angelika

Depending when you are in Inverness you could go Dolphin watching - there are several places near inverness - Fort George, North Kessock and by Rosemarkie on the Black Isle. They are amazing if you get to see them.

Another place to visit is the Culloden battle site - an important and signficant place in British History

There is, I'm afraid, little of note in Inverness itself which is rather a dull city. Probably the best thing there is the road south. :)

As somebody who lives near the towns of Burnley and Blackburn, I think Inverness is lovely!

I love Inverness, would love to move up there, but it's true, there isn't really much to do!!
We went here last time we were up, its really nice...http://www.invernessfloralhall.com/
Fort George is definately a place to go, as is Culloden.
I can't think of anything else just now!

I agree there - the further north the better although John O'Groats is a dump - the rest of the far north is interesting and wild - from the Black Isle and round Glen Affric (very pretty) and Strath Conan up along the coast through Portmahomack, Dornoch, Brora and Goslpie and then the wilds of Caithness ) excluding Wick!

Actually, I too have to agreee - the A9 south is rather boring for quite a long way, while the road north can be a delight.

It´s possible to see dolphins in winter? I saw some last summer in Oban but thought I only can see them in summer...
Thank you for your tips, but I only have 2 and a half day in Inverness, but I come back in summer...
Runrig music and scotland-both break my heart and heal it at the same time, a little bit of heartsickness...so I spent every free days in scotland, it´s a little bit like my home. Hope you know what I mean and what my feelings are

When are you going to be in Inverness, Angelika? If it's over the weekend of 26/27/28 Feb, then there are going to be several other riggies there, to see Coast on Saturday, 27th. You could come along too, I'm sure it will be a great performance and evening! :D

Dolphins i think are around in spring and summer. We also then get whales and basking sharks - you sound like you'll be a bit early for them. However the Black Isle, just north of Inverness is worth a visit - Rosmarkie is very nice and Cromerty is very pretty (you never know you might even see a certain drummer ;) )

Of course there is also Loch Ness - which is very dramatic - and its worth checking if Urquart Castle is open at Drumnadrochet - as that is realy good. Inverness itself s a bit disappointing - there's not much going on in the way of tourist attractions - although a walk along the river through Ness Islands is pretty. I only tend to go to Inverness for shopping as its our nearest city - only 160km away from where we live!

Sorry you won't be here when Coast are playing, but make sure you pop into Hoots anyway, even if it's just for something alcoholic from the Black Isle Brewery.

Ignore those who say Inverness is dull and boring. They don't live near the city. I live just outside Inverness and I think it is a lovely place. The River Ness goes through the heart of the city and there is a lovely island walk near to Whin Park. Culloden Battlefield is worth the bus trip out of town and you can get a braw bowl of soup there!! Bogbain Farm, the home of Blazing Fiddles, Bruce Mcgregor is also a great place to eat, but a bit more difficult to get too.
The old part of the town is lovely and there are ghost walks on at night.

The Inverness museum is open all year round and is free. It is a great way to pass a couple of hours.

Enjoy your trip and I hope the weather is kind to you. And by the way, not all our souvenirs are Nessie related. There are some beautiful shops which sell the most lovely jewellery, Ortak and Sheila Fleet to name two!!

I like Inverness. It hasn't got a big city shopping theme, but it does have enough shops. Inverness has some lovely buildings and it nice to walk by the river :).

Inverness is not unattractive. That doesn't get away from the fact, however, that it is dull. The fact that the best you can come up with for a city of Inverness' size is a walk along the river and a visit to a museum speaks for itself. :)

Until last year I thought Inverness held only the promise of good shopping. Now my partner has completely revised my view of Inverness and has certainly opened my eyes to its beauties. I agree with you RC the Museum is well worth a visit and has a small cafe for refreshment when the feet start to ache. I love walking to Whin Park along the river and then back again to enjoy a chinese meal from Jimmy Cheungs which overlooks the river and has great food. If you like architecture, Inverness has that aplenty, so walk with your head up! There is lots to do in the evening, ten pin bowling, pubs/clubs, cinemas etc.

Last Thursday we went to Fortrose, Rosemarkie and Cromarty and had a great time. At Rosemarkie we walked along the beach and saw a whale and three dolphins. The dolphins stayed for about twenty minutes and we were riveted to the ground watching them. Cromarty has a great pub which serves great food reasonably priced.... and the court house is opposite, sadly closed at the moment. I hope you have transport so that you can enjoy the whole area in and around Inverness. Have a great time Angelika.

You lucky, lucky thing!!! I am so jealous. When I was up on the Strathpeffer tour at Easter, Rosemarkie was one of the places we visited...........we never saw a anything but gulls when we went though :(
