It amazes me that some players excell a t the 15 a-side game and soem at the 7 a-side game , we have had the Wellington 7-s here this weekend , and this English player is brilliant , the press and rugby fans here love him , and respect him for what he has achived in the 7-side game . But its funny how he didnt reach such a high in the 15 a-side game ...I copied and pasted this from wikipedia about him .

Ben Gollings
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Ben Gollings (born 13 May 1980 in Launceston, Cornwall) is a rugby union footballer who plays fly-half for Tasman and England Sevens.

Gollings was educated at Castle Court School and Canford School and in 1997 led Canford to success at The National Schools 7's. In 2000, he was selected for England in the Students' World Cup, whilst at Brunel University.

Gollings has previously played for Bournemouth, Gloucester, Bath Development U19 side, Harlequins, Newcastle Falcons, Worcester, Doncaster Knights and Sunnybank. In 2006, he signed to play in the New Zealand National Provincial Championship for Tasman.

Gollings became the first player to score over 1500 career points in IRB Sevens, with 1568 at the end of the 2005/06 season.

There were rumors of Gollings playing Super 14 rugby for the current champions the Crusaders due to All Black and Crusaders flyhalf Dan Carter missing at least 7 weeks of competition. However, this rumour did not prove accurate, with the Crusaders instead choosing North Harbour pivot, Tusi Pisi.

From June 2007 Gollings joined Toyota Shokki Rugby and continued to remain a regular part of the England Sevens set-up.

He is currently touring with the Queensland Reds.

During 2009 Gollings became the first Rugby Sevens player to score over 2000 points in his career. He achieved this feat whilst at the London Emirates Sevens competition, which England eventually won

This guy is a true professional .

I was hoping for a Scottish victory today, but it wasn't to be :(.........they couldn't even muster a try.

France seem to back on form since the last time I saw them. Next weeks match should be interesting.

I did think that "Flower of Scotland" was rendered even more dirgefully than usual. I do hope that when the time comes for us finally to settle on a national anthem we manage to choose something a bit more inspiring.

I have seen several polls where 'The Flower of Scotland' seemed to top the list. I also believe that the Scottish Athletes heading to the Commonwealth Games have agreed to use it.
Personally, I like it, I think that it has great meaning for the Scottish People and is great to sing along to.

Mind you, Highland Cathedral is also a beautiful tune and highly touted as a favourite. Perhaps along with the words by Terry Mechan:

There is a land far from this distant shore
Where heather grows and Highland Eagles soar
There is a land that will live ever more
Deep in my heart, my Bonnie Scotland

Though I serve so far away
I still see your streams, cities and dreams
I can`t wait until the day
When I`ll come home once more

So Lord keep me from the harm of war
Through all the dangers and the battles roar
Keep me safe until I`m home once more
Home to my own in Bonnie Scotland

Whats wrong with The Queen Tiz?        ;)
No worse than singing about one of those old biblical mysteries, about Mary and Joseph setting up camp in Powys and creating the Arthurian legend etc.

The Welsh have a great one in Land of My fathers, but they're all pale in comparison to 'Irelands Call' - 'Ireland, Ireland, together standing tall, shoulder to shoulder, we'll answer Irelands Call'........................

Anyway, back to the thread in hand, VERY disappointed with the Ireland/Italy match. Almost fell asleep
England Wales slightly better, disappointing result (Wales lost :( )
Missed the Scotland/France due to eating a big dinner (Mum's Birthday)

Lets hope this week brings something better.

Only if you're feeling miserable. But like many northern races, the Scots are a melancholy people.

France were awesome data I would say it was the best forwards display in 5 years or more.

England pedestrian still but forwards were by far and away the better of the two. Wales when they got ball looked dangerous.

Ireland efficent but looked under par.

There's a difference? ;) Worrabout 'Land of Hope and Glory'?

One of the commentators said that Ireland couldn't cope with not being pushed, that they seemed frustrated and unsure. I would agree.

Scotland 24 - Wales 31. Now THAT was a match and a half. Great atmosphere, both sets of supporters giving a rousing rendition of their anthems.
Game itself was hard and Scotland looked comfy winners until the last 10 minutes.
Last 10 minutes - absolutley exhausting, exhilarating, exciting and riveting.

Unfortunately, I had to miss the second half so Scotland were winning by quite a bit when I left the TV. The result shocked me and gutted me at the same time, I must have missed a really good second half :(

And even worse when you have both Scottish AND Welsh ancestory.

Absolutely gutted with the Irish defeat, though its our first defeat in over a year, hopefully it will take away any complacency that the team might have had.

Sadly I am not but cider is lessening the blow. Oh well only the french ( does it get any worse ) and Scotland to go there is two wins in the bag ( cider is good for tinkering with your common sense. Scotland at Murrayfield easy .....................errr more cider required.
